As I was editing the final proof for my handbook in 2013, I added an insertion in Chapter Eleven that covered the challenges when opening a unique business. About one mile from my residence, a new retail store had just opened its’ doors. I visited that store and it was very impressive inside and out. Here is a quote from that chapter: “Just recently, a Grocery store for Babies has opened in our city. I’m not sure that I would Invest in a business that is so unique. I hope it will become successful, and perhaps it has been tested in another market. I also hope the owner has perseverance and the financial backing it may take to reach a break-even Point.” The store closed in about one year. The owner probably invested $300K in upfitting the building. It has since been demolished and the photo shows the property where a car wash is under construction.
